Saturate

Tailwind CSS version
v2.1+

Utilities for applying saturation filters to an element.

Default class reference

Class
Properties
saturate-0--tw-saturate: saturate(0);
saturate-50--tw-saturate: saturate(.5);
saturate-100--tw-saturate: saturate(1);
saturate-150--tw-saturate: saturate(1.5);
saturate-200--tw-saturate: saturate(2);

Usage

Use the saturate-{amount} utilities alongside the filter utility to control an element’s saturation.

<div class="filter saturate-150 ...">
  <!-- ... -->
</div>

Responsive

To control an element’s saturation at a specific breakpoint, add a {screen}: prefix to any existing saturate utility. For example, use md:saturate-150 to apply the saturate-150 utility at only medium screen sizes and above.

<div class="filter saturate-50 md:saturate-150 ...">
  <!-- ... -->
</div>

Customizing

You can customize which saturate utilities are generated using the saturate key in the theme section of your tailwind.config.js file.

  // tailwind.config.js
  module.exports = {
    theme: {
+     extend: {
+       saturate: {
+         25: '.25',
+         75: '.75',
+       }
+     }
    }
  }

Learn more about customizing the default theme in the theme customization documentation.

Variants

By default, only responsive variants are generated for saturate utilities.

You can control which variants are generated for the saturate utilities by modifying the saturate property in the variants section of your tailwind.config.js file.

For example, this config will also generate hover and focus variants:

  // tailwind.config.js
  module.exports = {
    variants: {
      extend: {
        // ...
+       saturate: ['hover', 'focus'],
      }
    }
  }

Disabling

If you don't plan to use the saturate utilities in your project, you can disable them entirely by setting the saturate property to false in the corePlugins section of your config file:

  // tailwind.config.js
  module.exports = {
    corePlugins: {
      // ...
+     saturate: false,
    }
  }
